Short - Coachscott Website/Writing Update Feb 24, 2023
Why would I do a writing update on the same day that I post my writing? That doesn't make any sense. Obviously it makes more sense to do writing updates on Fridays and Website updates on Sundays. That way I can talk about what I have prepared for the coming Sunday's posts. This post is going to be a bit of a hybrid.
The Ice Bowl is finished in the sense that there is a beginning, middle, and end. It is currently 12,500 words which is more than double what I wanted it to be at the start. And, I need to go through and do some rewrites to make the story logical which could push it over the 15,000 mark. I love the story, I didn't expect to find anything very interesting in the story but there was a point where I started listening to what the characters wanted and a few things just came together. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to get the story to the point where I want it to be without doing a complete rewrite. The plan is to make small edits and post it on Sunday so I can move on for now.
Short Stories: 15,000 words is not a short story. I'm going to make an effort to reign in my writing and not get carried away so that I can consistently output 1 completed short story every 2 weeks. That way I can post a short story on one Sunday and the outline for that short story on the following Sunday. This also gives me one week to plan a story and the following week to write it. If I stick to the outline format that I used for The Artist this is easily achievable as long as I stay disciplined.
Website Updates: Are not going to be very interesting in the short term. I am stretching my limits to be able to read and review two books a week on top of writing 1000 words a day. I have plans for the website and now that I have some content it makes sense to make updates to the website. But, for now my priority is improving my writing and the best way I know to do that is to spend my time focusing on reading, writing, and reviewing.
Other Media: I have been watching a screenwriting course on YouTube and finding it very helpful in my writing. Another thing that I am doing is trying to pay closer attention to the story of all types of media in case there is something that I can draw upon in the future. This has led me to the idea that I could potentially review other types of media (from the perspective of the writing). Things like Movies and TV for sure but also Documentaries, Photography, Music, other types of Art. Basically anything that could conceivably tell a story.
That's all for today. Thank you.
